Dr Anish Bhuva is a Consultant Cardiologist at Barts Heart Centre—one of the largest specialist cardiovascular centres in Europe—and an Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at Whittington Health.
He has broad expertise across adult cardiology, including arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, cardiovascular prevention, heart failure and advanced cardiac imaging. He remains in active clinical practice, performs pacemaker and defibrillator implantation, and leads the pacing clinic at Barts Heart Centre.
Dr Bhuva is an Associate Professor at University College London. He leads the National Heart Rhythm Audit, which monitors the quality of heart-rhythm procedures across the NHS, and serves on the Council of the British Heart Rhythm Society. His national service-development work has helped improve MRI access for people with pacemakers and defibrillators.

Dr Bhuva’s British Heart Foundation-funded doctoral research used advanced cardiovascular methods to study how first-time marathon training changes blood pressure, vascular stiffness and cardiovascular age. The work received international coverage from the BBC, NPR, the Financial Times and The Times.
AI-assisted cardiac imaging
His research uses machine learning and automated cardiac-imaging analysis to make complex measurements faster and more reproducible, supporting expert clinical interpretation.
Access to MRI
Through MRI My Pacemaker and Pace MRI, he has developed clinical education and digital pathways that help people with pacemakers and defibrillators access clinically important MRI scans.
National responsibility
He has led the National Heart Rhythm Audit, supporting quality improvement in cardiac-device and ablation services, and has contributed to national professional guidance and service development.

Dr Bhuva studied at St John’s College, Cambridge, graduating with a triple first, before completing clinical training at University College London. He undertook a British Heart Foundation-funded PhD on the cardiovascular effects of marathon training and also holds an MSc in Clinical Trials and a BA in Italian.
Recognition includes the University of London Gold Medal, the Royal Society of Medicine Cardiology President’s Prize, a BMJ national award and an HSJ national award. These distinctions sit here as supporting evidence of a long-standing commitment to clinical care, research and service improvement.
